Even though the recent history of this race only goes back to 1986, NASCAR did come to the track periodically in the 1950s and 1960s. Back in 1957, stock cars made their first appearance with Buck Baker taking home the $1,000 first prize. That’s probably not enough to buy a tire on today’s cars, and luckily for the drivers the purse money has been increased significantly to the $250,000 range for the winner.

Juan Pablo Montoya held off the mid-race charges of a determined Marcos Ambrose and won the 2010 Sprint Cup road race at Watkins Glen International, capturing his first Cup race since 2007. Montoya, who led 74 laps out of the 90 that were run, received his first series win of the 2010 season (breaking a 113-race winless streak) his second series career win and his first win at The Glen.
