The Toyota Savemart 350 at Infineon Raceway may be different and controversial, but maybe that’s why NASCAR fans love it so much. While experts may decry its course length and configuration, it is one of the most popular NASCAR races around.
Head on up to wine country for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 is one of only two Sprint Cup races run on a non-oval track. With 10 turns over 1.99 miles of track, this is one of the more unique races on the circuit. The NASCAR Sprint Cup series only makes it to Northern California once a year.
Gilligans Island at Infineon Raceway
Because of the small size of the original pit road, driving teams were packed in, often doubling up on available space. To remedy this, Infineon Raceway installed a pit road inside the hairpin turn. After a few years, a new and larger pit road was installed, relegating Gilligans Island to history.
The Chute
Early running of the Toyota Savemart 350 featured an amazing 12 turn course that gave NASCAR drivers fits. Also, the overall length of the track, at over 2 miles, gave Infineon Raceway a bad rep. In 1998 The Chute was installed, cutting out some turns, and making the race an even 2 miles.
