Gatorade Duel At Daytona features two 150-mile qualifying races that determine the starting lineup for the Daytona 500.

The Gatorade Duel races also were the final chance for many drivers to qualify for The Daytona 500.

Known officially as the Gatorade Duel Qualifying Races, these 150-mile events will determine the starting grid for the Great American Race – the 52nd running of the Daytona 500 Sunday.

Once qualifying is over, the field is set by merging the highest ranked 35 teams in the owner standings with the fastest seven cars not in those 35 positions, in the order of their qualifying speeds. The 43rd position is reserved for a former champion, provided he is not already qualified and satisfies the rulebook’s criteria. If unused by a former champion, it goes to the next fastest car in qualifying. The lone exception is the Daytona 500, which uses qualifying and two 150-mile races to determine the field.

The Gatorade Duel at Daytona certainly lived up to their new name. Long known as the Gatorade 125′s, the races this season were lengthened by 10 laps and renamed the Gatorade Duel at Daytona. In a ‘Duel’ that race fans have been accustomed to seeing, Michael Waltrip edged his Dale Earnhardt Inc. teammate Dale Earnhardt, Jr. by a mere .030 seconds for the win in the first event.

In the second Gatorade Duel, Tony Stewart held off a hard charging Jeff Burton in a race that included a seven-car incident that included contenders Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace. No drivers were hurt in the incident.

With Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. grabbing spots up front in qualifying and the top 35 teams in owner’s points guaranteed a shot in the Daytona 500, along with four drivers (Bobby Labonte, Bill Elliott, Scott Speed and Joe Nemechek) outside that top 35 getting in on speed alone, that leaves just four spots open and 19 desperate drivers trying to fill them.

Busch went on to win the Chase for the Sprint Cup (or Nextel Cup at that time) and that proved the value of getting a good start at New Hampshire.

Clint Bowyer’s 1st win of the 2010 season, his 3rd series career win and his 2nd series win at “The Magic Mile.” Bowyer also broke a 88 race winless streak, and this victory places him second in the series point standings in the “Chase”. The victory helped vault Bowyer from 12th to second in the Chase when it heads to Dover, Del., next weekend. Bowyer finished ahead of runner-up Denny Hamlin, who retained his top seeding after surviving a topsy-turvy day in which he started 22d, climbed to fourth, then dropped back to 22d after getting spun out by Carl Edwards in front of heavy Turn 4 traffic on Lap 215.

Brickyard 400 has taken place annually since 1994 and was the first race for vehicles other than open-wheel cars on the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. With a relatively short history, the Brickyard 400 is long on excitement, and always a popular favorite with fans at Indianapolis.

The first Brickyard 400 set an all-time NASCAR record as more than 250,000 fans turned out for the historic event. A young Jeff Gordon scored his first of what is now four victories at Indy and started a new tradition in NASCAR that has helped push the sport to new levels. Other than the iconic Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400 is perhaps the most prestigious race on the NASCAR schedule.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has a brand new racing event at Kansas Speedway. This new race, which is the first of two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at this track, will be known as the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway.

“STP Brands has been a part of racing and specifically NASCAR racing for over 40 years” Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren said. “I’m excited to welcome STP to Kansas Speedway as the entitlement partner of our June NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and I look forward to working with them.”

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been the site of many memorable events since the facility opened in 1909. Similarly, Chevrolet has a rich heritage in racing that dates to company co-founder and namesake Louis Chevrolet, a gifted engineer and talented race car driver who competed in the Indianapolis 500 four times.

“The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” covers 500 miles, 200 laps on the famous 2.5-mile oval. It currently is the marquee race on the schedule for the IZOD IndyCar Series, the premier open-wheel racing series in North America.

The Indy 500 goes back to 1911, when the first official race was held. Although the event has gone by different names, this is without question the premier event in the IRL tickets market, as the champion of every race becomes an instant legend. Legends such as A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti and Rick Mears have taken the checkered flag here in the past, and every race is a week-long celebration of open-wheel racing.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was founded by Carl Fisher in 1906, and the first Indianapolis 500 Mile Race was held in 1911. Following several lean years, and the suspension of racing during World War II, the track was sold to Anton Hulman Jr. in 1945.

Hulman spent millions of dollars improving the facility and turned the Indianapolis 500 into the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” Despite rain delays, deaths, and a power struggle in auto racing circles, there has been an Indianapolis 500 each year since 1946.

Bank of America renamed its signature race on October 16th at Lowe’s Motor Speedway the “NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America.”

Bank 500 Race Odds As the fifth round of the 10-race Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the NASCAR Banking 500 is sure to play a pivotal role in deciding the series champion. Recent winners include Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson.

It consists of laps totaling 500 miles for the entire race. Before the 1966 race, the Bank of America 500 was only 400 miles long. When problems occurred with rain and having to complete the race at night, the officials decided to make this Bank of America 500 race a Saturday race. There was also a conflict with the 2005 race as the Southern California and Notre Dame Football game ran into overtime and caused a delay in the televising of the race. Along with the main oval, the speedway also has a 2.25 mile road course in the infield, a 0.6 mile kart course in the infield, a quarter-mile oval using part of the front stretch and pit road, and an 0.2 mile oval outside turn three.  In 2005, the surface of the circuit had started to wear from its last paving in mid-1994, resulting in the track’s treatment in a diamond-grinding process to smooth out bumps.

Built more than four decades ago, the Lowes Motor Speedway is the largest sports facility in the Southeast with 167,000 permanent seats, including 121 executive suites, and capacity for nearly 50,000 more spectators in the infield area. Lowe’s Motor Speedway was the first super speedway to host night racing in 1992 and was the first sports facility in America to offer year-round living accommodations when it released 40 condominiums for sale high above Turn One in 1984.

As Jimmie Johnson achieved perfection Saturday, the rivals trying to prevent him from winning a fourth consecutive championship seemed more fallible than ever. Johnson qualified first and was fastest in all three practice sessions en route to winning the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. It was the first “perfect weekend” (a goal set by crew chief Chad Knaus) of the three-time champion’s 286-race career, though some took issues with the criteria.

He won races, kept his temper in check and avoided every major incident long enough to cement himself as one of the greatest drivers of his time. Needing only to run a clean race at the Ford 400, he hovered just outside the top 10 and away from any potential danger.

He ended up 15th, winning the title by 35 points over Greg Biffle, and winning his second Ford 400 in a row. Stewart became just the 14th driver in NASCAR history with more than one championship and joined four-time winner Jeff Gordon as the only active full-time drivers with multiple titles.

Kyle Busch saved himself from a wreck early in the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway then went on to win his second race of the season as 13 cars wrecked behind him. For several years prior, Crown Royal 400 was held as a daytime race event, the weekend following the Daytona 500 in February. Then the lights were installed, but the race remained during the day. Richmond International is a short track that drives like a superspeedway. Side-by-Side all night long is possible. A faster driver has a lane to move up or down and get the pass done. The racing is tight and fast and the finishes are usually exciting. Saturday night racing under the lights in Richmond is NASCAR at its best.

The 3/4-mile D-shaped oval has just 14 degrees of banking in the corners but it is enough banking to provide great racing. While the other short tracks on the circuit (Martinsville and Bristol) tend to force drivers to hug the inside line to be fast, Richmond has multiple grooves. It was Joe Gibbs Racing with a one, two finish at Richmond International Raceway, as Kyle Busch took the checkered flag (almost 2 seconds) ahead of teammate Denny Hamlin to win the NSCS Crown Royal presents the Matthew & Daniel Hansen 400.

Busch, who led 235 laps of the 400 that were run, received his 2nd series win of the 2011 season, his 21st series career win and his 3rd series win at RIR

The Southern 500 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup race held at the Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. At Darlington Raceway history is being made as the top names in NASCAR compete in 367 thrilling laps in 501 miles.

Darlington Raceway in 2009 had originally brought back the name, the Southern 500, but now has changed or modified it to the Showtime Southern 500 at Darlington. The Southern 500 that originally was held on Labor Day and is one of the most legendary races in NASCAR history.
