2011 Samsung Mobile 500 Results

Matt Kenseth finally found himself back in winning ways after a two year absence from Victory Lane with a dominant win in the Texas night race that saw him lead for 169 of the 334 laps despite fuel issues at one point. The driver who appeared to be his biggest threat in the final stages, Tony Stewart, actually ran out of fuel on the last lap and fell from third to 12th place in the space of that one last revolution, leaving second to Clint Bowyer and third to Carl Edwards, who had been suffering from a case of food poisoning.

The biggest wreck of the night at Texas Motor Speedway occurred on lap 214 when light contact between Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick caught up Regan Smith and Mark Martin in a crunching pile-up. Truex, Smith and Martin all went to the garage with heavy damage, while Harvick followed up consecutive race wins with a disappointing 20th place at Texas after going two laps down.

2010 Samsung (RadioShack) 500 Results

Jeff Gordon won the Samsung 500 on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.

Texas Motor Speedway has bit the four-time champ more times than he’d like to remember. In the Samsung 500 last year, the sleep-deprived new father spun off of Turn 4 on Lap 109 and finished 43rd. Gordon’s only other last-place Cup finish also came in this race at Texas in 1999 when the No. 24 car’s tire blew on Lap 70 in Turn 4 — experiencing a vicious hit that haunted him for years.

But Sunday’s run was nearly flawless. Gordon started from the front row and took the lead on the first lap. He led six times throughout the race for a total of 105 laps. However, it was his ability to regain the lead out of the pits for the sixth and final time on Lap 307 that enabled Gordon to end the drought and score his 82nd career victory.
